What is Acne(pimples)

• It is a skin disorder affecting both males and females usually between 15-30 years of age but can affect or appear at any age.
•  It is mainly seen on face followed by chest, back and arms.
•  It happens due to increased oil secretion and blocking of pores by oil and dead skin under the influence of hormones. There are multiple factors which can aggravate or precipitate acne.

How is it treated?

Traditionally acne was considered a normal condition which comes and goes during teenage. However, if left untreated it will leave permanent marks or scars which are more difficult to treat. With current advances, it can be safely treated with simple topical and oral medications. Additionally there are newer peel solutions which will reduce the redness and marks associated with the acne. Red light(phototherapy) is the latest advancement which will kill the bacteriae and reduces the severity of acne within few sessions.
